HORSEPOWER TALK FEBRUARY 2007

FEBRUARY NEWS

Lindsey Racing has several areas around our 8,500 sq. ft. facility where we keep products of different types. One area is for exhaust systems, one for clutches, another for brakes, another for silicone hose and another for hard parts such as bearings, rings, electrical sensors and virtually everything from top (Idle Screw) to bottom (Oil Pan Drain Plug) that are specific to the 944 Turbo. Keeping organized allows us to keep inventory levels where they need to be to quickly fill orders. We try to stock all the popular parts so we can ship orders the same day. We have the ability to drop-ship many of our items directly from the manufacturer or distributor which can be as good as having it on our shelves.

If you have purchased parts from us in the past, then you know we are extremely quick at filling your order and getting those items from our hands to yours. It's not uncommon for us to receive an order at 3:50 pm. and have it ready for the 4:00 UPS pick-up. It boils down to if we can, we will. That's part of our overall customer satisfaction plan. Larger orders, especially with custom parts, can of course take longer, but we can keep you informed along the way so there is no guess work.

If you haven't noticed lately, we have been continually adding products and pages to our web site.

Unless you look at our entire site regularly, sometimes daily, these additions may go un-noticed. Here are a few of the more recent page additions to the site.

One of our newest additions is our Engine Rebuild Kit Page. We spend a lot of time on the telephone or through E-Mail helping customers understand what is required to rebuild their engines in terms of bits and pieces. Then the conversations usually turns to questions such as, "Is there anything else I should do while I'm in there? How much would it cost to upgrade the engine for track use? How much is this connecting rod versus that connecting rod?" This page was a long time coming and needed.

We show you all the bits and pieces required to do a standard or basic engine rebuild. We also have plenty of upgrade options. These options will continue to expand as we add things like cylinder heads, cams, cranks and other upgrades to the list.

One of the nice things about this new page is the ability for it to allow you to quickly add up what it would cost to do a basic engine rebuild. As well, what it costs to add some bullet proof parts and different levels of parts such as aftermarket versus genuine Porsche pieces.

When you select or click on the product's thumbnail picture or product name, you get to the Detail Page . Here you can either take the kit as is, or upgrade almost any area of the rebuild. There is also a long and growing list of options you can add.

You can set up the "drop downs" in different ways or levels of rebuild, "add to basket", then hit the "basket contents" link. This will display the cost of your selections. You can "Remove" the product, set it up a different way and see how that package totals up for need or budget comparisons.

Another web page is our Autometer Gauge Page. This is an on-going page as Autometer has a huge product line and is always expanding the gauge line-up. We have 5 of the most popular sellers already up including the Sport Comp, Z-Series, Lunar, Carbon Fiber and Cobalt line. When you select the thumbnail or product name of the group you're interested in, you can "roll over" the gauge part number and view the particular gauge face. If you didn't know it, we are happy to quote and supply ANY Autometer product. Just drop us an E-mail asking for pricing on whatever Autometer part number you desire. We have access to 4 warehouses across the country and can get anything to you quickly. Our prices are competitive with anybody out there and you're dealing with a company you know and trust.

One of the recent Package Deals pages we added is a Solid Bushing Kit package for the suspension on your 944, 951 or 968. We have one kit for those running an aftermarket front lower control arm that already has front bushings, and one kit for those needing everything, and running stock style control arms. Both kits have the option of "Polygraphite" or "PolyBronze" bushing on the rear spring plate.

Another package deal recently added is our 951 Gauge Package page. Three different packages with gauges and gauge holders and one even includes a manual boost controller.

Many of you know, I (Dave) have been building and maintaining the web site since Day One. This task can be a full time job in itself. Keeping pricing up to date, adjusting the ever-evolving look and feel and creating new pages for new product. As the business continues to develop and grow, so does the need for help with this important area of the business. We are happy to announce another member of the Lindsey family, Eleanor Lindsey, is sharing in that responsibility and gives us an Assistant Web Master to help keep up with all the work involved. Another Lindsey, Chris, has also been helping during the past few summers while off from his college studies.

There have been two more recent additions to the Lindsey Racing crew. Matthew and James. Matthew is 23 years of age with a passion for cars and engines. He turborcharged his Nissan 280Z and fitted it with a do-it-yourself kit style Engine Management System. He spends his lunch hours tinkering with it or something automotive. He built that car while going to College and obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies with emphasis in Mechanical Engineering, Math and Biblical Studies. Matthew graduated in 2006.

James is a part time employee while he finishes his degree in Computer Science and will be graduating in 2007. James is another "car guy". Although he drives a Hot Rod Buick (we won't hold that against him), he knows his way around cars. His family owns and operates a business that supplies unique parts for antique and classic cars and he grew up in that environment helping his family with all areas of that business.

We just received our April Issue of Excellence Magazine. It features a 911 RSR 4WD on page 90. The car is running a set of Lindsey Racing P2 wheels. That car must be a HOOT to drive! It's an article worth reading as this is a very special and unique car.

CUSTOMER CAR OF THE MONTH

Jim Lankford's Guards Red 951

Jim's beautiful 944 Turbo graces the coast of southern Texas. Only a short three or four years ago, Jim had never heard of a 951. Today, he can say he knows them inside and out. Jim had rebuilt the engine on this beauty along with his 951 Track car which featured in the November issue of Horse Power Talk.

Jim has many Lindsey Racing pieces on both cars which propel them down the road and around the track. We recently built him a set of 3 piece wheels for his wife's 911 Turbo.

SHOP TALK

If took 6 proto-types to get there, but our Lindsey Racing version of the Porsche Motorsports progressive front springs for the Turbo S are almost done. Above you see the set prior to the final version. They will be at the powder coaters getting a coat of red paint when you read this. One of the most difficult thing to correct was the length of the spring. Porsche made it too short in our opinion and it falls out of the top spring hat when the suspension goes full droop. If you install spacers or adjust the spring perches up to correct that, the cars ride height goes up at the same time. Getting the correct upper and lower spring rate and the correct ride height range was more of a challenge than we first thought.

Having finished that task, we will quickly get to work on a set for the 86 through 88 944 Turbos without the MO30 suspension.

One fun and interesting project we did during the MAF chip development was data-logging. Here you see two MAF meters with different calibrations and a stock AFM all in a row. We wanted to see not only how they compared flow and voltage wise, but how the AFM reacted to quick throttle tip in vs. a MAF meter with no restriction. This additional information provided to Russell Berry with 951 MAX helped develop the new MAF chips. We are currently running the new chips and should be starting to place them in kits over the next couple weeks.

Lindsey Racing and Russell Berry of 951MAX came together several months ago to offer performance chip sets for the 944s. We have been extremely pleased with the performance results as well as the relationship. 305 RWHP and 345 Ft. Lbs. of torque from a Turbo S with a stock turbo and AFM speaks for itself. For those of you who want more than chips, the ability to change from one map to another, or even take control of the tuning, your wants are becoming reality.

Russell has graciously agreed to allow us to preview some of the latest information on the Maxtronic Motronic Tuner and the MaxBin BIN file Manager. The BIN files are the maps. Plus the "you're seeing it here first" MaxTune tuning program which is on schedule to be released later this month.

Introducing the Maxtronic Motronic Tuner. The Maxtronic is an EPROM emulator which replaces the chip in your car's Motronic computer.

The Maxtronic allows you to load up to 8 different performance mappings, including valet and no-start modes for security. For ease of manipulation and management of your chip images they have created MaxBin BIN Manager.

MaxBin will ship free of charge with the Maxtronic, and will be available for other emulators from the MAXhpkit website for a fee. Along with MaxBin, once you register, you will be provided an online storage facility which will house copies of your BIN files should anything happen to your local copy. Your registration information will also be duplicated here for future reference. This service is entitled MaxByte.

The most exciting new development in addition to these developments is the MaxTune components. MaxTune give you the ability to custom tune your car in real-time. While driving down the road a passenger may tune the engine, or even on a dyno to optimize your parameters. The MaxTune configuration screen gives you the ability to choose from pre-configured settings by car type, or the advanced version will allow you to create your own map specifications. The advanced version also gives you the ability to work on standard static map files, or chip images, for other than real-time tuning. The Configuration screen of the standard version is shown here, where you detail which of the 8 possible Maxtronic images you are working on, which type of vehicle, and which map within the image.

Next we see an example of the Fuel maps. Graphs not visible here will give a visual representation of the actual fuel and timing maps on the respective tabs as individual cells, rows of cells, and other map manipulations are all point-and-click. Once a cell is chosen, the values are changed via a mouse click or up/down arrow keys and all changes take place in real time in the running map.

MaxTune will be integrated into MaxBin. There will be a standard version with strict boundaries and protection built in to keep you from harming your engine. The advanced version will have much more capability and flexibility and will be aimed at use by professional engine tuners and can be adapted to work on many different types of cars. This new technology elevates the legacy Porsche performance options to the level of current systems for other cars, and gives the customer stand alone performance tuning capabilities.

Look for MaxTune to be released this month! Maxtronic and MaxBin are now shipping and available through Lindsey Racing.

FINAL THOUGHTS

With the additional staff, facility and accounting upgrades, we look ahead to a smooth sailing and enjoyable 2007.

Until next month, we wish you many safe and quick laps.
