FUEL MAPS
These Fuel Maps are to give our customers start-up
fuel maps to try. They are not final maps. You must
tune your car from there.
Hold down the "SHIFT" key on your keyboard before clicking on fuel MAP FILE (*.lio) and save in the "import" folder of your MAF TUNER directory. These files are compressed (zipped) before we load them to the server. This insures
that when you un-zip them, they will be complete and intact. If you get an error when un-zipping them, then the
file is not usable and it would indicate that there is a problem with the file. Compare the file size (bytes) to make sure the file is completely intact. This has been done to insure you get a complete file, rather then one with a chunk of information missing during downloading that could make it not operate correctly with your Power Perfect and MAFTuner software.
Don't have compression capabilities? Click for an evaluation version of WinZip or you can purchase it.
File sizes below are the size after you un-compress the file. Check the file size to verify it has completely transferred. If the file size is less, do not use it.

Tips and Tricks.
Power the Power Perfect at your desk top.
We assume that your new Lindsey Racing Digital MAF system is already completely installed in your car. See your instruction sheet included with your kit for complete hardware installation instructions.
Initial Software Set-Up:
1) Place disc in CD Rom Drive.
2) Click "My Computer" and click on the drive that you just placed the disk in.
3) The new window that pops up will have new icons in it.
4) Double click on the icon that has your version of Windows.
5) A MS-DOS window will pop up. The software will load itself. When it says finished on
the header of that window, close it and return to your desktop.
6) Connect the Power Perfect to your computer using the supplied
serial cable. This cable is custom and not something you can obtain at a computer store if lost.
Contact Lindsey Racing for a replacement.
7) Power up the Power Perfect. The first green LED
light above the 0% should be lit up. This is done by connecting to a 9v transistor
radio battery using the supplied 9v power supply cable, or if mounted in the car,
turning the key to the run position. (The Power Perfect can run on 4 to 12 volts DC. So you can make your own power supply if needed.)
8) Click on your new
MAFtuner icon. You should now be looking at the MAFtuner main screen seen below.
If it did not create a MAFtuner desk top icon, you may need to activate the program through
your Start menu. You can right click on the icon on that menu to create a desktop
icon.
9) If you get an error message, then you may need to change
the com port setting. On the Maftuner software screen top menu bar, select BOX / OPTIONS.
Select another com port and follow the messages. If you get the same error, select the next com port until it loads clean to the screen shown
below.
Downloading a Starting Fuel Map:
1) Create a directory on your computer named "Fuel Maps"
2) Download the lr001.lio fuel map
located at the top of this page under "FUEL MAPS" to your new Fuel Maps
directory.
Open the Fuel Map:
1) From the "File" menu on the software screen,
Select "Open" then browse or point to the lroo1.lio you placed in your
Fuel Maps directory. If you did not up-zip the file, you will not
see it. You must extract or un-zip the file first. It's on our server
as a .zip file to protect the data.
2) If it loaded properly, the word "idle" will be
displayed on the upper right (used to say "not connected") and the Monitor
button appears. You can see which file you loaded by looking at the address bar
at the top of the window.
Final POT Adjustment & Uploading to E-PROM of Power Perfect:
1) Power Perfect must be powered down or off for step 2.
2) Position the 4 pots
(knobs) on the Power Perfect controller in the neutral or center (middle) positions. This gives you range of motion in both directions from there.
3) Power Perfect must now be powered up and serial cable connected for this next step.
4) Set the Pot Values on the software
screen to 15, 25, 25, 25. This allows more range of fuel adjustment
for first time out than what the lroo1.lio file normally has. The larger
the number, the more the voltage change when you turn the knob on
the power perfect. 0 = no voltage change, and 50 means a whole bunch.
We like something in the middle initially. We will back those numbers
down later.
5) In the MAFtuner software,
select "Box/Update EPROM" from the menu. It will prompt you to confirm you want to
upload the file. Select Yes.
6) You will see some numbers
scrolling on the screen where it said "idle" which means it's flashing the Power Perfect's memory. When it returns to
the word "idle", it's done.
Saving your new Fuel Map:
This would be a good time to save your work or slightly modified
initial Fuel Map. We could of just made these changes in the initial
lroo1.lio file, but we wanted you to get familiar with how you
work with the program.
1) From the menu, select
"File / Save As". Select the directory you want to store the
file in. I suggest your new Fuel Maps directory. Enter a new
file name. IMPORTANT: You must add or type the ".lio" extension in the file name otherwise it will not see it when you try to re-open it. It does not automatically add the
extension, and the program will be looking for it.
In our example here, we are naming it JoePorsche01.lio. The new file
name is then displayed in the address bar at the top.
Tuning or Trimming your new Fuel Map:
Your new loaded fuel map will not be correct for your car at this time and adjustment or
tuning will be necessary.
IMPORTANT:
Do not attempt to adjust your fuel without an AIR/FUEL ratio gauge. Improper ratios may result in engine damage. We highly
recommend a Wide Band O2 gauge kit for the best information. We sell
several kits that can be found Here.
1) With your on board
AIR/FUEL ratio gauge or Dynos AIR/FUEL sensor connected you can adjust your fuel pots (knobs) on the Power
Perfect as needed. Know your desired air/fuel ratios
before starting this tuning procedure. Consult your mechanic
or Supplier.
When the car is idling, the first LED will be lit. This looks the
same as when the key is on or it's powered. As you rev the engine, you will
see the LED's light up from left to right. The further to the right they
are lit up, the higher the voltage off of the MAF meter which means there is
more air running through it.
The Power Perfect's LEDs when fully lit up represent 6 volts. Depending on the
set-up or scaling of the MAF meter, how much of the meter's capacity you are using, the boost you're running at the time, you may not ever see the last one or two LEDs
lit up. That doesn't mean you have a problem. It just means you're not near
6 volts. Our set-ups tuned properly usually top around 4.6 volts.
2) As you increase in engine
RPM/Load, you will be required to trim (turn) the pots so that you achieve your desired ratio along the RPM/Load range.
The LEDs on the Power Perfect indicate where you are at
voltage wise within the unit and shows you what pot to turn at that
point. ergo: If you're at 4,000 RPM and your mixture is to rich, look at the lit up LED and turn the associated pot above that LED
counter clockwise to lean it. If you're to lean, turn it clockwise
to richen it. Right for richer, Left for leaner.
Downloading from E-PROM of Maf Tuner:
Assuming you have done some tuning, we are going to Download your adjusted Power Perfect back to the MAFturner software to make further adjustments.
1) Connect PC or LAPtop to Power Perfect controller using supplied serial cable.
2) If downloading in your car, turn the key of the car to the run
position. (Do not start the engine).
2b) If downloading at your
desk, Supply power to the Power Perfect controller using
9v supply or similar.
3) Launch the MAFtuner software
and re-open your initial fuel map. In our example here, it's JoePorsche01.lio.
4) Go back to main Screen and verify that the there is an "idle" message in the upper right of the main
screen.
6) In the MAFtuner software,
select "Box/Retrieve EPROM" from the menu. It will prompt you to confirm you want to retrieve the file. Select Yes.
7) We suggest at this time you save this as a new file or fuel map. ergo: JoePorsche02.lio.
Select "File/Save As" from menu. If you press the "monitor" button, you will see in "red" the adjusted fuel map as per your pot settings and the "blue" is the original map. From here we can make changes and create this new (adjusted for needs) map.
Making changes to a Fuel Map:
Now we are going to make changes to your fuel map (JoePorsche02.lio) to get you closer to your desired ratios and goals. Select fuel map for change if not already open. (JoePorsche02.lio)
1) With the Power Perfect connected to the PC and powered up, click on the "monitor" button. You will see in "red" the adjusted fuel map as per your adjusted (from tuning) pot settings and the "blue" is the original map
(pictured below). From here we can make changes.
2) On the left of the screen, you see V (voltage) In and V Out windows. We will be adjusting the
V Out settings.
We are going to adjust the fuel map to your new (adjusted) Power Perfect settings. We are going to adjust the "blue"
line and place it on top of the "red" (adjusted) line.
3) I like to start in the
middle, say around the 2V In range. Look for the V In closest to 2 Volts. In the right column, click
in that box and change the number (voltage) up or down as needed to chase your red line. When you press "enter" on your keyboard, it will adjust the "blue" line. You can change the number again and again without re-selecting the box just by pressing "enter" after you change the voltage. Change the numbers until the "blue" line is on top of the
"red" line. Then move to the next V IN box either higher or lower (doesn't matter) and adjust the same way. When you're done, the lines should be very close to being on top of one another. This picture illustrates the 2.062 Volt
IN and below range changed. Upper range from 2.250 V IN has not been changed yet.
Once you finish making all of your voltage adjustments or changes, we suggest you save your work as a new file. Select "File/Save As" from
the menu and assign a new file name so you can keep track of your progress or you can just select "Save" and update this one. In our examples, we
now named it JoePorsche03.LIO.
4)
IMPORTANT: Before uploading
back to your Power Perfect's E-Prom, Set all the pots on the Power Perfect back to the neutral or center
positions. Kill the power to the Power Perfect for a couple seconds, then turn the power back on to the Power Perfect.
Once you finish up-loading the file, it's good to kill the power one more time on the
Power Perfect before starting the car on it.
5) Now you can Upload the new fuel map file to the Power Perfect and try it again. The
tune should be un-changed from when you last drove the car. The difference now is simply
that your pots are centered allowing more adjustment either direction.
You will have both Rich and Lean adjustments from your neutral positions again. If you still do not get enough
of what you need in adjustment, then you must follow this procedure again.
Tips and Tricks:
If you increase the Pot settings in the software, it will give you a greater
adjustment when you turn the knob, but it also becomes more
sensitive or harder to make little changes if that's all that is needed. If you're real close
to your final tune, you may want to turn the pots down to numbers such as 5,10,10,10 to make
the job easier.
Remember not to turn the Power Perfect pots until you
have downloaded the E-Prom otherwise you changed your tune.
Remember to set the pots to neutral and kill power briefly
before re-uploading new fuel maps to the E-prom. Then kill the power
again briefly before starting the car again.
We feel this is worth repeating. After you flash your
new fuel map to the Eprom of the Power Perfect, it is
necessary to cut the power to the Power Perfect
momentarily.
According to the manufacturer, it's only required to do that if you
change the position of the pots first. We like to kill the power with any changes to insure a clean boot of the device.
If you're not getting to your desired curve fast enough, change the pots to 20, 25 or even a higher value. This
makes the amount you adjust the fuel knobs have more effect on your changes. Be careful, the higher the number,
the further you change your fuel with a small movement of the knobs. As you're getting close to your perfect
map, turn them back down to 10, or even 5 so you can make more precise adjustments. Get the picture?
Safety Related - Once you have your fuel map perfected, you may want to change the pot settings
to "0". This way nobody can turn your fuel knobs and
change your air fuel ratios. This basically disables
them when you do this. Remember, change the settings
in your MAFTuner software with your latest fuel map open, then "SAVE" the file. Upload to your Eprom. Remove power to the unit again to re-set the pots to
the new settings. You "may" wish to leave the idle
(1st pot) at "5" or "10" and leave yourself a little
adjustment there. Perhaps even the second knob
to "5". By leaving the 3rd and 4th pot at "0", since that's where you're under boost, there is nothing to worry about with someone touching your
controller.
Power the Power Perfect at your desk top:
To program your Power Perfect, it either needs to be in your car and switched on, or powered up
at your desktop with a 5 to 12V DC power supply. Either run from a 9V transistor radio battery, or a AC/DC transformer kit.
You can collect a few parts from Radio Shack for about $22.00 and get the job done.
12V 1500mA Power Adapter # 273-1779
Adaptaplug 6" Power Leads #273-1742
D-Sub Connector #276-1428.
Cut the end off the 6" power lead and strip the wires for termination. Remove two terminals from the D-Sub connector package and crimp them on the wires.
Slip the two wires (terminals) onto the Power Perfect plug at the back of the unit. (Look at the harness to determine which wires are the ground (black) and power (red). With the wires connected, plug in your power supply. The first LED in green will light, just as it does in your car with the key on. If it does not light,
then you may need to reverse the wires. Ground/Power.
Now you can work at your comfortable desktop computer while building and perfecting your maps.
