Q: i am interested in the balance shaft delete kit. i have an '83 n/a 944. i had heard the vibration from deleting the balamce shaft can damage the oil pick-up tube. have you heard pf this before?
A: Yes, we have heard that. It's likely just a old pick up tube and a coincidence. Consult your engine builder upon using this product or not.
Q: Do you recommend the crankshaft be balanced when deleting the balance shafts and how hard is it on the aluminum cross member? handl
A: Porsche does a pretty good job on balancing the crankshaft from the factory. If you have your motor apart, we would suggest you have the crank balanced. However we would not pull the crank and balance it just because you're doing a balance shaft delete. The crank is balanced by itself and not influenced by whether or not you are running balance shafts. We have not seen any relationship between balance shaft delete and a problem with the cross member. Removing your balance shafts can cause some harmonics that loosen bolts we have seen. Once you discover those and properly secure them, you're good.
